OVER 125 YEARS AGO, J. Turner Turner and his wife left their home in England for North America. The spent several years in the U.S., and then proceeded to British Columbia in 1886 where they spent several years hunting and trapping. In 1887 they left the relative safety of Fort George and led by fearless Indian guides they proceeded up the Fraser River, passing the Goose River and the Caribou River, hunting along the way in the Grand Canyon. They continued upriver for another 25 miles. At this location they decided to build a a log shack and set up a winter trapline. They suffered greatly during this time only to be saved by generous Indians who visited from time to time bringing them supplies from Fort George.The narrative of wilderness adventure that follows will be of great interest to both the hunter and trapper.
